Weigh In

Well, I weighed in at 566, a 6 pound increase from last week.

This week I am increasing my exercise, and making sure that I drink at least 1/2 gallon of water every day. Also, no Chinese food this week and no diet sodas.

We'll see what happens at next weigh in.

  1. Shake it off! I like your attitude, instead of marinating in it, you've immediately got the game plan revised and ready for a successful week. Nice job!

  3. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward. What did you do the week before 3-20-2009 or 05-18-2009? Those were your most successful week. Try to recreate those! Keep up the effort; take a few steps toward Talledega each day.

  4. I'd keep Chinese food (at least that prepared in a restaurant) off the menu for the foreseeable future. High sodium, high fat. And no nutrients in that crappy white rice.

You've been at this long enough to know what works and what doesn't, Stephen. Concentrate on what you know will get the job done. You've got a big goal in front of you, and you're on a timetable. Get serious about it... right now.

  5. It good to shake it off, but just because your able to get up every time you fall does not mean its ok to fall all the time, learn from those falls and adjust, you can do it!

  6. Here's what you said ..."I have been obese my entire life, and I have decided it is time for me to change my unhealty lifestyle habits."

What I have observed is that you are trying to lose the weight by holding onto your old food choices, but limiting the amounts. You have been successful because at the weight you are now, your calories have been reduced significantly enough over what they once were to still make that possible. However, very soon... the smaller you get, the harder this will become. You will have to keep reducing calorie intake until you will start feeling too deprived and it may make you want to quit.

We do not want to see this happen. That is why I keep urging you towards healthier foods.

Let's start with breakfast: Waffles are not healthy. (manufactured carbs), Cream cheese (full of sodium) The honey? (pure sugar). Old fashioned oatmeal, protein powder, chopped almonds and strawberries are the way to go.

Dinner: Chinese Food (massive sodium, as you know) Wings are coated with BBQ sauce (sugar and salt) Have instead a nice steak or salmon with lots of steamed veggies, tomato, lime and olive oil.

Your body stores 3 grams of water for every gram of carbohydrate you consume (waffle, white rice, potato, you get the idea)

The average person carries around 3 lbs. of extra water just from the sodium in foods. That is not counting extra salting added to the food. There is a lot of sodium in bread and cheese as well. Start reading the labels on foods and you will be amazed.

If you eliminate dairy and grain products, you will get rid of most of your sodium problems right there.

Most of what you gained this week was water weight. (Chinese food and manufactured foods are loaded with sodium) If you can break this "carb" feast, you will easily drop A TON of water weight. I am not kidding when I say it could be as much as 10 lbs.

The way you do this is by eating good protein with LOTS of steamed veggies, topped with olive oil or toasted sesame oil.

Instead of sodas, Pellegrino water ($12 for 12 big bottles at BJs) with lots of lime. The magnesium in the Pelligrino Sparkling Water will lower your blood pressure and help your sleep as well.

It can be easier than you think. You need to reverse your thinking and try some new foods.

Humans are highly adaptable. We can get accustomed to anything. But first you must take that first bold step out of your comfort zone.

I know you can do it. I am on your side and rooting for you...I hope you'll try some of these ideas and explore your own too. --Robin

  7. I lost 6lbs this week. You must have picked them up after me! No chinese food! If you eat it regularly, that'll definatly be hindering your efforts!

  8. I agree with Jack. the only food preppared in a restaurant aside from food I had at church a couple sundays ago was on Friday night. that was a half a grilled cheese then half a lil cheeseburger then what measured out to be a whole small fry. I had pizza today....homemade. If I want it bad enough, I'll cook it myself. Chinese food is suprisingly not difficult to make at home. I've even made fried rice. Think...if I want it...I have to make it myself! Then with that, don't make more than two servings at a time.

    still rooting for ya!
