Lousy Weigh In

This morning I weighed in at 553 pounds. Which is a gain of a pound from last week. I feel that my food was okay. It could have been better. My one valid excuse is that I signifincantly increased my exercise and workouts. So, maybe I gained some muscle.

Another factor in this might be that I ran out of Thyroid meds. So I ended up skipping one day. Maybe that played a role in this.

I am going to reevaluate what I'm eating, and I may need to really start measuring my food. (count calories, weigh food, measure portions, etc.)

My South Beach Diet book should be in by the end of the week.

Maybe next week, my weight will start to decrease.

As far as the exercise is concerned, I have a whole lot more energy, and when I look in the mirror, I can tell that my neck and chest have gone done more. So maybe the added muscle is why I'm not losing 5-6 pounds a week. It may jump back up to that next week.

Don't worry, I'm not gonna stop exercising or dieting.

It's gonna be a long week. Dammit.

  1. It's okay. Weight loss isn't linear, so there will be times when the scale blips up when you don't think it should and times when you lose when you probably shouldn't. Keep the overall goal in mind and pay attention to make sure that little things aren't slipping in there and you'll be just fine!
You are already doing so well!

  2. Just gotta keep moving forward and take it one day at at time. I know you have a weight goal but just remember, after the weight comes off, you will still have to work out and eat right forever and ever and ever so you can't ever go back to the way you were eating & living.

  3. Lori used up all the good advice, so all that's left for me is bad advice...

    • Eat more pork rinds
    • Watch more tv
    • Drink YooHoo instead of water
    • Have a Red Bull right before bedtime
    • Floss with bacon

Lori, next time don't use up all the good advice. Leave some for the rest of us!

  4. Hey Jen, I never, ever want to go back to the way I was eating before. I have more mobility and energy now.

  5. Just keep going! Know that some weeks will be significant and the others not so much. It'll all be worth it in the end!

  6. Do you journal your food? I know next week will be better for you. GREAT job on increasing your exercise! I take synthroid for my thyroid and I KNOW that missing one day can throw off your entire body. Try to keep up on those so it won't happen again. :)

  8. I have to agree with what everyone else has said.

There are weeks that we may gain but the most important thing is moving forward! I don't know how many times I have stopped a diet because I gained a pound.

You are still doing a fantastic job! Keep up the good work!

  9. It's so hard but I think it's harder when you really think you did good and you gain. Prior fat girls Dad is trying to lose but he gain 2 pounds in one day.
Keep on blogging Stephen we know how hard it is.

  10. so sorry; I know how hard it is to get fixated on the number that is on the scale and how you want it to move down, down, down, down, down. I think you have a good point in measuring food and portions; sometimes we think we know what a portion size is but actually could end up eating 2-3 portion sizes in one setting

    just keep on keeping on

  12. Stephen, You are doing good. The biggest thing is that you are learning a whole new way to eat and live. This is huge! It's easier to change people's religion than it is to change their eating habits!

Trust me, what you've done thus far is nothing short of amazing. Don't put undue pressure on yourself...you are gonna get there, you know that.

Look how far you've come in your food choices. Weight is a way of quantifying... If you truly get healthier you will reach your true goal--fitness... and that is the only thing that matters in the end.

  14. yeah, please stephen, dont let it get you down. youve already dome some great stuff already. ill also be the first person to tell you that screwing up anything with those thyroid meds is a recipe for disaster. it just shuts down your metabolism. make sure you hurry and get a refill. and if you can afford it, get your levels tested to make sure youre at a tsh of 1 or 2.

  15. Any or all of those reasons could result in a 'false' gain. Our bodies do things in their own time, and there have been weeks when I thought I should lose but gained, and weeks when the reverse was true.

Focus on your healthier habits and the weight will come off!

If you aren't already measuring/weighing your food, at least do the calorie-dense stuff. It will make a big difference.

  16. It might be muscle gain. You can't get disappointed with this though. You are not going to lose huge numbers every week. You can't be disappointed in the weeks that are "bad" weeks. Just pick up from here and keep doing the things you knows are good. The weight will come off.

  17. Hey, don't lose heart! you've done so well so far, you're definitely on the right track.

try to at least log your food, at a high level, if you don't think you'll have time to work out the exact calories etc... keeping a diary is really helpful to see what I've eaten over the day and where I might have gone wrong - but it is something that I'm lousy at doing!!

  18. You are doing well. The combinations of things probably contributed to this week's disappointment. Please don't let it discourage you! Step back up to the plate and conquer this week! I like the idea of weighing your food. Remember meat weights are based on pre-cooked (raw) weights not cooked weight. I also like that you acknowledge every day that you feel great after you work out. The others have a great point, push yourself every workout. When you think you can't go faster make yourself go faster. When you're tired and you want to stop go one more block or one more lap. That great after workout feeling will reward you ten-fold. We are all here cheering you on!
